The Design of Design

In this collection of essays, Fred Brooks deconstructs the design process that will enlighten designers in all disciplines. He includes conversations with outstanding designers, as well as his own wide-ranging experiences. This is a must-read for any designer – or artist – who wants to find new, bold solutions.

How to Set Up a Gallery at The Digital Artist

Now that you’ve signed up for an account – you have set up an account haven’t you? – it’s time to get a gallery. It only takes a few clicks, and you’ll be able to upload and show your work to the world.

Here’s a new tutorial that makes it easy.

Another Reason Our Exhibitors Are Cool

Arlee BarrWhen something doesn’t work, or make sense, exhibitors at The Digital Artist let me know about it! A recent email from exhibitor Arlee Barr prompted me to write a tutorial about setting up galleries at The Digital Artist.

So, after you’ve read the tutorial, drop by Arlee’s page, take a look around, and say thanks!

Thanks, Arlee!

Special Thanks to a New Exhibitor…

Re-booting a website, especially one that already has thousands of members, can be a difficult task. There are always bugs and problems. So it’s a wonderful surprise when a visitor – and, eventually, new member – takes the time to let me know when something doesn’t work.

Many thanks to Diana Magallón, who has been persistent and patient in her efforts to set up a new membership! Her notes to me have helped The Digital Artist work better for everyone. I hope you’ll take a moment to visit her exhibit, say hello, and appreciate her work. I’m most grateful to Diana for her help!

Now in 48 Languages!

Raku x 3

Love the look of raku pottery, but haven’t tried it? Here are three videos that show you how the process works.

There’s No Such Thing As a Graphic Design Emergency…Or Is There?

It’s long been my first rule that there’s no such thing as a graphic design emergency. After all, nobody’s life is at stake, and probably nobody’s career, either. But does the “No Graphic Design Emergencies” rule work for you? Have you tried implementing it in your own practice? Are you able to turn down the client’s or boss’ design “emergency?” Or have you been able to prevent them in the first place?

Musings on work, life, and loyalty that may be the opening volley in a very active discussion…
